University Grants Commission

University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body under Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was established on 28th December 1956 in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and its head office is located in New Delhi. UGC is responsible for coordination, determination and maintaining standards of teaching, examination and research in universities and framing of regulations on minimum standards of education. UGC provides recognition to universities or colleges in India and disburses funds to such recognised universities and colleges. UGC has implemented strict guidelines for distance universities offering distance learning courses to ensure that students receive a quality education and their degrees are highly recognised by employers and other institutions.

Distance Education Bureau

The Distance Education Bureau (DEB) is a bureau of the University Grants Commission located in New Delhi. DEB is responsible for regulating distance and online education programmes of Higher Education in India. It was established in the year 2012 and replaced the Distance Education Council, an organisation that was responsible for open learning and distance education since 1985 in India.
